Etel Adnan. Behind the Horizon Line

Etel Adnan. Behind the Horizon Line

11 November 2021 to 28 February 2022

Gallery T2 and T3. Curator: Álvaro Rodríguez Fominaya.

In coproduction with TEA Tenerife Espacio de las Artes

The Centro de Creación Contemporánea de Andalucía (C3A) is pleased to present the first exhibition in Spain of Lebanese painter, scholar, poet and writer Etel Adnan (Beirut, 1925), co-produced with TEA Tenerife Espacio de las Artes.

The show surveys her career through an ample selection of sixty-one works created since the 1960s, with a special emphasis on her output from the last two decades. All the artist¿s creative media¿painting, drawing, leporellos, ceramics, textiles and video¿are represented here. Etel Adnan¿s style has evolved from the pure geometric abstraction of her early years to her approach to the landscape in the 1970s, although she never abandoned the abstract.

This is one of the largest international exhibitions ever dedicated to the influential artist, who has recently had retrospectives and solo shows at major art centres like the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum (New York), Zentrum Paul Klee (Bern) and the Serpentine Gallery (London).
