Tete Álvarez. Scenographies
Tete Álvarez. Scenographies
18 June to 24 October 2021
Gallery T2 and Video Gallery. Curator: Álvaro Rodríguez Fominaya.
The Centro de Creación Contemporánea de Andalucía is honored to present the exhibition Scenographies with various works created by Tete Álvarez (Cádiz, 1964) between 2019 and 2021.
Working in the post-conceptual field, his research has primarily focused on the semantic and communicative power of the image. Since appearing in the early 1990s, he has worked with photography, installation video and net art. The show examines stages of politics and power that have been shattered, decontextualized and transformed to create new meanings: "scenographies" that form the backdrops to international gatherings and, with their symbolic significance, become iconographies in this project. Tete Álvarez's oeuvre uses one of the classic pictorial genres, history painting, as a point of departure for turning the rituals of politics into the backdrop of a rigorous formal analysis based on images culled from the internet. But it also asks questions, such as where we citizens belong on that political game board.
