ANA PRADA. EVERYTHING IS OTHER

The C3A proudly presents Everything Is Other, a solo exhibition of works made by Ana Prada (b. Zamora, 1965) since 1994. The work entails the use of imaginary measurements and everyday objects -cups, golf balls, hair rollers, knives- to make complex geometrical structures, some of them on a monumental scale.

The relation between such common objects and sculpture constitutes the centre of a formal and conceptual tension. At the same time, the sculptural volume, scale, and materials engender a diversity of spaces and planes for the viewer. What from a distance appears to be a grid, a totem, or a cube, is revealed from a closer viewpoint as an array of spoons or plastic containers stripped of their utilitarian functions.

This search for objects, textures, materials, and colours is not accidental, but rather the result of a process of experimentation in which the properties of the elements used are subordinate to the art work. Thus the artist takes her materials to the limits of the physical frontier of load, weights, and forces.
